Things we Lost in the Fire...

Nothing good comes out of self pity. There must be a difference between expressing your grief and bitching and whining about it. At one point, we need distance from the situation, to try to look at it clearly. We need to get away from things in order to realize their true importance. We make mistakes, we learn from them. Then we take what we think we've learned, and we try to do something positive with it.

Many ways exist to deal with difficult situations. Some people just move forward, and pretend that those bad deeds never happened. Others are incapable of rising out of despair, and let themselves drown in their tears. Others need to scream and shout, to break things around, bring mayhem to their already cahotic world in order to subsequently start rebuilding. Others, on the contrary, rely on their never-changing rules and ethics, and follow them strictly in order not to lose the grip they (think they) have on events. Some heal with music. Some heal with company. some heal with loneliness. Some heal by taking care of themselves. Some heal by taking care of others. Some heal with time. Some heal trying all of the above until they find what suits them. And some don't heal.

I heal with words. At least I try. They are my playground, my painkiller, my means of expression, my best friends and worst enemies. But they remain just that: words. Words put together, with a meaning that can vary according to the context, situation. Words have many times picked me up from the bottom. Simple words, sincere words. Words have often brought me down. Hurtful words. Painful words. True words. Words have made me happy. Words have made me make people happy. Words have made me miserable. Words have made me make people miserable. Words are alive. Words are as material as a picture, as an object dear to us for whatever reason. Words are like the souvenirs that stay engraved in our memories. The good and the bad ones. One thing positive about words? We can't lose them in a fire. They are certainly the closest thing to immortality.

PS: the movie on the poster is a must see, "things we lost in the fire", with Halle Berry and the magnificent Benicio del Toro... He is one of the greatest actors of today, with an already impressive career...
